YouTube is introducing a new way for users to find and connect with each other – Handles.
Handle is basically a very common feature across all social media platforms. Currently if we need to search any channel, we can search through channel names and sometimes when channel names are complicated it become hard to remember. So, now handles will make it easier for users.
Handles are basically username that you can use on YouTube, similar to how you use a username on other social media platforms. This will make it easier for people to find and connect with each other on YouTube.
How do I choose a handle?
Once you’re notified (via email & in YouTube Studio) that it’s time to choose a handle, you can visit youtube.com/handle to choose your handle. If you don’t choose a handle by November 14th, we will begin assigning one based on your channel name. You’ll be able to edit your handle from youtube.com/handle if you want to change it!
How Handles can be used?
You can also use your handle to find other YouTube users with similar interests. To do this, go to the search bar on YouTube and enter your handle into the search box. This will bring up a list of YouTube users with similar handles. If you’re looking for a specific user, you can also enter their handle into the search bar. This will bring up that user’s channel page.
It’ll soon be simpler and faster to mention each other in comments, community posts, video descriptions and more using handles.
Will existing URLs continue to work?
Your other URLs will continue to redirect to your channel and your new handle URL.
